FHA Meeting Citizens' Real World Needs

Working together through FHA, federal agencies are addressing collective healthcare technical interoperability issues in order to meet their missions of serving citizens. These missions are as diverse as the agencies themselves.

  • The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) needs better insight into a broad array of health systems throughout the country to track infectious disease.
  • Department of Defense (DoD) and the Veterans Administration (VA) need to be able to share information with each other and with private-sector treatment facilities to ensure our soldiers received the best possible care.
  • The Social Security Administration (SSA) needs to be able to quickly request and receive information electronically from organizations throughout the country in order to make accurate and timely decisions about disability claims.
  • The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) needs to be able to track adverse reactions to pharmaceuticals in order to track their suitability for use in the U.S.

These are some examples of the countless ways the U.S. Government can better serve citizens’ health-related needs through the application of interoperable health IT systems. To learn more about how FHA is working with agencies to address their health IT missions, click below.
